Tuition fee-paying students to Lund University

As a tuition fee-paying student, in order to receive a housing guarantee in our housing queue you will need to follow the below specified terms and conditions.

The terms and conditions of the housing guarantee for fee paying students

Following are the terms and exceptions to receiving and keeping your housing guarantee

  1. Join the queue during the application period.
  2. Pay your tuition fees before the deadline.
  3. The housing guarantee only applies to you. It is non-transferrable and will not extend to any family and friends that you might wish to accompany you.
  4. The housing guarantee is only valid if exercised from the first semester of studies. If you choose to find your own housing in the first semester, the housing guarantee is no longer available to you.
  5. The housing guarantee means that you are guaranteed to receive one housing offer from LU Accommodation.
  6. As a non-EU/EEA student required to pay tuition fees, you will be able to keep your housing for the normal duration of the Master’s programme (2 or 4 semesters) or Bachelor’s programme (6 semesters) to which you were initially admitted.
  7. You apply for accommodation before the given deadline, even if you are experiencing issues with your visa, residence permit or study fees payment.
  8. You accept the first and only housing offer given by LU Accommodation.
  9. You pay the first rent instalment and deposit according to instructions.
  10. You pay the remaining rent instalments and tuition fees according to instructions.
  11. You do not cancel your housing contract during your study period.
  12. You have a continuous housing contract for the full duration of your study period (see above) including all non-semester time periods. Exceptions to this rule will only apply should you need to leave Lund for a period in order to carry out an integral part of your studies at Lund University.
  13. You fulfil the rental terms and conditions of the accommodation contract.

Clarifications for fee paying students

You will only receive housing guarantee if you have paid your tuition fee before the general deadline.

If you receive an extension on the tuition fee payments, this means you do not have guarantee until such time that you have paid your tuition. You will most likely miss the first major batch allocation that happens as soon as the application period closes.

Note that you still need to have joined the queue during the application period, whether you have paid your tuition on time or not, to be eligible for housing guarantee.

Exemptions for students on a US student loan or a full scholarship:

As a Bachelor's or Master's student who has been granted a US student loan or a scholarship covering both tuition fees and living costs (e.g. the Swedish Institute Scholarship), you will be given a 45 day payment deadline on your first rent instalment and deposit, instead of the normal 15 days. Any subsequent rent instalments will have 15 days payment deadline.
However, you still need to accept your housing offer within the deadline specified in the housing offer.

Students prioritized for housing but not guaranteed

Some students are prioritized but not guaranteed housing. This means that you will receive offers once all the students with guaranteed housing have received an offer. This applies to the following:

  • Students coming for undergraduate studies or master studies within the International Credit Mobility (ICM)
  • Exchange students from universities outside Europe coming within the Universitas 21 (U21) network
  • Students within Joint Programmes and Double Degree Programmes

Students prioritized for housing should apply for accommodation before the given deadline.
